Evangelistic Story

Prayer Answered One day I was sent a lead card for Dr James Wright's medical books, but the person hadn't included a phone number on it and lived all the way up in Ocean Reef, WA.

One day when I was north of the river, I took a chance to see if I could catch someone at home. A well dressed lady answered the door. She invited me in and was very kind and hospitable toward me. We seemed to hit it off straight away. I showed her the books she had asked to see, but as I talked, God convinced me I was showing her the wrong books. This woman needs spiritual books, He said. So I asked if she would excuse me for a moment so I could go out to the car and get the Bible Reference Library.

Anna had been a nurse all her life and was brought up in a Sabbath keeping Church. She left the church when she was 17 years old. Later in life, Anna and her husband, Gerry, went on a trip around Australia. While at Broken Hill, NSW, she picked up a Signs magazine at a stand. Then when they got to Esperance she saw another Signs stand and took another one. She read this one and applied for some free books and also ordered some paperback books. That's how I got to meet her. I knew from my own experience God was calling her back to the fold. She was reading her way back to Jesus.

So she purchased the Bible Reference Library. When I saw her about two weeks later she had been reading more and she said, “Aymond, I don't know what happened to my life. I guess I've just been so busy.” I was able to comfort her by telling her I had done the same thing. I had left God for 16 years and came home too. So it was a divine appointment and we had prayer that day, especially for Gerry, who I think was a bit bewildered by it all.

I'm happy to tell you they both go to church every Sabbath now, after Anna had stopped going more than 40 years ago. How wonderful is the love, patience and long suffering of our Lord and Saviour! - Aymond Burdett, Western Central Area
